To make Licorice Candies

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ tablespoons of black licorice extract.
  • ½ cup of dark corn syrup.
  • ½ cup of condensed drinking milk.
  • ¾ cup of the whole wheat flour.
  • 1 complete cup of pure granulated sugar.
  • I stick unsalted butter for the mixture and extra for greasing the pan to be used.

  • 1 full teaspoon of black food coloring.
  • ¼ cup of blackstrap molasses.

The Preparation Process

  • For these measurements you require an 8-inch square loaf pan. Line the pan with a parchment paper and grease it with the extra unsalted butter.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan to mix the required ingredients appropriately and boil the beginning mixture over medium heat. The first ingredients to be mixed are dark corn syrup, one stick butter, kosher salt, granulated sugar, blackstrap molasses and condensed milk.
  • After the temperature of the mixture reaches 265°F on a candy thermometer, one should remove it from the heat. You should then stir in black licorice extract, whole wheat flour, and black food coloring and pour the resulting mixture into the prepared pan.
  • The mixture should chill in the refrigerator for 30 to 45 minutes until firm.
  • When firm, remove the candy from the loaf pan and parchment paper and cut it into ½ inch thick ropes as you twist to shape. Place the shaped candies on baking sheets and put in the refrigerator for about 20 to 30 minutes until set.
  • Store your candies in an airtight container and put it in the fridge for up to 1 week. To soften them before serving, ensure that they stay at a room temperature area for a while.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of pieces of sifted licorice root.

  • ½ cup of some cinnamon chips.
  • ½ cup of very dry chamomile flowers.

  • ½ cup of dried orange peels.

The Instructions

  • Stir all the mentioned herbs thoroughly and store the mixture in a glass jar that has a tightly fitting lid.
  • Add one tablespoon of the mixture for every cup of water and simmer over low heat for about 30 to 45 minutes. By simmering you get more flavor and extract from the herbs.
