Tea tree powder is obtained from the dried leaves of Melaleuca Alternifolia, the tea tree plant. The tea plant is an evergreen shrub. The tree develops into a bowl-shaped canopy when left in a field.

The bark of the plant is rough and typically grey in color. Its leaves, where the powder comes from, are alternate elliptical and leathery in texture. This powder has very important components that are so essential in the body. It contains antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antifungal properties.

The tea tree powder is commonly used to treat acne, athletes foot, lice, nail fungus, and also insect bites. Milling the leaves results in a light green fine powder with an odor characteristic to the tree.

How to grow tea tree?

It takes several years for a tea tree plant to mature enough to harvest. This means that you will have to wait patiently for the plant to reach its harvesting time. If the tea tree plant reaches about 3 feet, that is one meter, which means it is ready for harvesting.

The following are tips on how to grow a tea tree plant;

Seed preparation

Buy the Camellia sinensis seeds for the best results. These seeds are recommended because they are hardy and they can make either black, green, or white tea from the leaves. You can buy the seeds from a local nursery, you can order them online and you can also use cuttings.

Soak the seeds in a bowl filled with water and make sure that the seeds are totally submerged. Allow the seeds to absorb the water for the seeds dormancy to break and allow them to germinate easily and fast.

Planting

Take the seeds out of the water and place 2-3 seeds in a separate vermiculite container. Place the containers in a warm and sunny location and spray the seed to dampen them. Cover the seeds one niche with vermiculite (a brown mineral that helps the seeds retain moisture). The tea tree seeds ought to stay damp at all times.

Seedlings start to germinate after 6-8weeks. They should have about 3 or 4 leaves each. Put every seedling into a separate pot and fill it with acidic soil. Spray the soil regularly to keep it moist. After a seedling is 20cm in height, you can it in a new pot. The pot should be spacious enough but if planted outside, the plant should be at least 3 feet to allow room for growth.

Water the plants daily, with distilled water to maintain the acidity of the soil. The plant is hardy and rarely needs fertilizer. Wait a few years for the plant to mature. Once the plant reaches one meter, it is ready for harvest.
